Let's Get Started:
The first step, of course, is to bake and ice your cookies. Let them cool, then flood with icing and let them dry.
1. Preparing the Car Stencil base layer for Airbrushing
- First, carefully shake your bottle of DecoPac Airbrush Food Coloring in Malibu Blue and pour 5-6 drops into the reservoir of your AirGenie Airbrush System airbrush tool.
- Separate the two portions of you Stencil Genie and place the thicker side down, magnets facing up. Next, place the car stencil over the top with the car outline centered in the middle of the square.
- Place a Quadrant Masking Tool above and below the design to protect those areas of the cookie from overspray. Next, place the Screen Genie over the top and lock everything into place using the remaining piece of the Stencil Genie.
2. Airbrushing the Car:
- Place the entire assembly over the cookie, lining up the design where you'll want the color to go.
- To help keep the stencil flat against the cookie surface, use stacks of cookie magnets, in three or four, and place them strategically where they do the most good.
- Prior to airbrushing each color and cookie, always test out the spray on a stack of paper towels. Adjust the flow as needed by turning the knob on top of the unit.
- Apply the color using light, even coats. Use a long needle or chopstick to further press down the edges of the stencil as you go.
- Once finished, lift away the magnets and then the tool assembly, and then put the cookie aside to dry.
3. Cleaning
- To clean the stencils and stencil tools in between cookies, rinse them off and dry completely using either clean paper towels or a lint-free dish towel.
- To clean the airbrush tool between colors, rinse out the reservoir 3-4 times, then reattach the hose and fill the reservoir with water. Run the tool on full power until empty. Repeat this step twice more, once again with water and then a third time using an inexpensive 100-proof vodka.
4. Airbrushing the Flame and Speedometer
- Next, load some Honey colorant into the airbrush tool.
- To mask off intricate design elements, cut a piece of Glad Press'n Seal roughly the size of the stencil and place it over the top, pressing it into place to remove any bubbles or wrinkles.
- Now, take a Gyro-Cut craft and hobby cutting tool and trim around the desired element - in this case the first two marks on the tachometer stencil. Turn the blade sideways and use it to lift the corner of the cut plastic. Then peel it away leaving everything else covered.
- Place the stencil, along with one Quadrant Masking Tool, into the Stencil Genie and airbrush as you did earlier.
here's the honey...
- You can reuse the Press'n Seal by pealing it off and rotating it 180° and reapplying.
- Trim away the portion covering the next tach mark
- load the Firestone colorant into the reservoir. Repeat the process.
...and here is the Firestone
- While you have the orange color loaded, isolate and airbrush the design onto the flame cookie.
- Now, switch to Super Red and finish the colored marks on the tachometer cookie.
Finally, the Super Red....
4. Airbrushing the Messages (black):
- Next, load some Midnight Black into a clean airbrush tool
- Stencil the two messages on the cookies.
- Wipe off both sides of the Screen Genie with a paper towel to prevent blotching.
4. Airbrushing the Car Details Overlay (black):
- Mask off the car detail design and finish the classic car cookie in black.
5. Finish the Speedometer Details (black):
- Lastly, use the Glad Press'n Seal to mask off the remaining tachometer elements. Finish this cookie with the black colorant.
