Start by getting a selection of sugar cookies and use royal icing to flood and decorate the surface with a flat finish. Let your royal icing dry before airbrushing your cookies.
We like to airbrush on a clean cookie sheet to keep food coloring from getting on our counter surface, but you may find that parchment paper or a granite counter top works better for you.Put a cookie down on the surface before loading the first stencil into the Stencil Genie. Place the Mehndi Valentine stencil into the stencil genie and onto the cookie with the design centered. You may want to use cookie magnets on top of the stencil design to hold it flush against the cookie surface. This will prevent the airbrush from spraying out beneath the design.
Load Fuchsia Amerimist Food Coloring into the color well of your AirGenie Airbrush System and test the airflow on a piece of paper towel. We recommend turning the flow rate all the way down and working your way up before airbrushing the design onto the cookie. Once you get used to the precision of the spray, move the test paper towel out of the way, then lightly build the color with a round or back and forth motion. It should take a few coats to build the color through the design. After 3-4 coats you will get full color coverage. Be careful not to let the liquid food colorant bead up on the cookie surface… this means you have too thick a coat of food coloring!
Remove the cookie magnets before lifting the stencil genie off the cookie. If you are going to continue using the same stencil and color, simply place the stencil genie on your next cookie and keep airbrushing! Replicate the design in fuchsia until you want to change stencils or colors.
The next cookie pattern is the Retro Love cookie stencil. For this two design stencil we will use the Isolation Tool. Center the isolation tool with the Retro Love cookie design you will be using first. Place cookie magnets around the design then airbrush the design just as before! If you want to do a two-color design, airbrush the first element of the design in one color on each of your two-color cookies.
When you are ready to use your second color, clear out the airbrush with vodka, line the design back up on each cookie, then use your next color! Clear out the airbrush by running vodka through until it comes out clear. Water works for this purpose as well, but vodka will evaporate and dry faster. When the airbrush is dry you can add the next food color to the airbrush.
The Paper Hearts cookie stencil is the third design featured in this video, which works nicely with the isolation masking tool. Try centering the hearts or placing them so they hang off the cookie edges!
