How to Make A Strawberry Cookie Basket 🍓
Most people love strawberries. Most people love cookies. It seems only fair to assume that most people will love strawberry cookies!
Placed in fun strawberry baskets, these sweet treats are ideal for a Berry Sweet or Sweet One Theme Birthday Party, Mother's Day, or any Summer BBQ.
Here, we will walk you through what you need to make them and provide tips on how to ice the cookies.
What You Will Need:
- Sugar Cookies (use our Sugar Cookie Recipe). A no-spread cookie recipe is the most suitable.
- 1 batch of royal icing, divided into 5 bowls. Make sure it's stiff! Check out our tips on royal icing consistencies if you need help.
- DecoPac Gel Food Colorant in Red for the strawberry, Green for the leaves and then choose from a yellow, white or black colorant for the seeds.
- Leaf piping tip for icing bag
- Small writing piping tip for icing bag
- Strawberry-shaped cookie cutter & Strawberry Cookie Stencil
- Berry crates for the cookies - you can find these at Oriental Trading Co., Amazon or craft stores.
How to Make Your Strawberry Cookies:
- Make, cut, bake and cool your strawberry cutout cookies.
- Thin and color one of the bowls of royal icing with the red food gel. Allow this to develop into a bright red over 2 hours.
- Flood the strawberry cookies with the red icing. Do not flood the leaf section of the cookie.
- Thin and color a second bowl of royal icing with the yellow, brown, or black food coloring for the strawberry seeds.
- Use that icing to pipe dots onto the strawberries, making sure the consistency of both icings are the same.
- Using a toothpick, gently pull the dots slightly upwards to make a seed or raindrop shape. Strawberry seeds are not round, so try to create some variation here.
- Thin and color a third bowl of royal icing with green food gel.
- After the strawberry and seed icing has dried completely, use the green icing to pipe the leaves using a leaf tip.
- When the icing has set, place the cookies into the berry crates – perfect for summer days, or a Berry Sweet or Sweet One Theme Birthday Party!
