Ingredients:

What do you need to create the perfect gingerbread house? Here are the ingredients that we recommend!

  • 1 cup unsalted, softened butter. If you need to substitute it, use 1 cup of vegetable shortening
  • 4 1/2- 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup unsulphured molasses
  • 1/3rd cup cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons ginger
  • 3 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/8th teaspoon ground cloves
  • ¾ teaspoon salt

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Line your 2 baking sheets with some cut parchment paper or Silpat mats.
  3. Cream together the butter and sugar using a stand mixer. Use the paddle attachment if you have one. When smooth, add the molasses and stir until combined.
  4. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, and scrap the sides of the bowl after each egg is added.
  5. Add the cornstarch, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves. Mix these on a medium-low speed until they are combined.
  6. Set the mixer on low and add the flour. Add it ½ of a cup at a time until the dough forms a ball.
  7. Roll the dough ball out to a thickness of ¼ inch. Once rolled, place it between 2 sheets of parchment paper.
  8. Place your dough in the fridge to cool for 3 hours or overnight.
  9. When cooled, remove from the fridge. Cut shapes using gingerbread cookie cutters.
  10. Transfer the shapes to prepped baking sheets and bake for 10-15 minutes. Be sure the cookies are set around the edges but are softer towards the middle.
