Best Ways To Use Gel Coloring For Macarons

Learn how to make your macarons even MORE epic by using gel food colorant to match any color palette to suit your party theme!

Best of all, it's not difficult, so your macarons will look professionally made in no time!

What You Need To Color Your Macarons:

There are 3 main ways to use gel colorants when coloring Macaron dough. This includes:

Solid Color (coloring the dough itself):

    1. Choose the DecoPac Premium Gel Food Color in the color you want to use and add a drop or 2 to your mixture.
    2. Continue to add a drop at a time until you get your desired shade. Or put on your creativity hat and make a new color combination using several gels.
    3. Your macarons will look amazing!
    4. Add dough to your piping back and pipe out your brightly colored macarons!

    Tie Dye:

    1. Divide your macaron batter between 3 bowls.
    2. Tint each bowl with the desired colors and then empty each into a piping bag.
    3. Take another large piping bag and squeeze in your first colored mixture down 1 side.
    4. With your second colored piping bag, repeat the process and layer the color next to the original shade. Be careful not to mix the colors.
    5.  Repeat with the final color. When you pipe, each macaron will be different.

    Rainbow Splatter:

    Kids LOVE this one :)
    1. Take the gel food color and add 2 drops of water. Ensure there is not too much water, as this can seep into the macarons and impact their structure!
    2. Mix in a bowl.
    3. Use the food-safe art brush and tap it over the macarons - use your finger to pull back the bristles. This will create a splatter effect. The best part of the rainbow splatter macarons is that, even if you tried, you couldn't get this wrong. Every macaron will be unique and pretty!

Gel colors are ideal for macarons as they are higher in pigment and drier. Using liquid-based food coloring will cause the Macaron batter to be runny!
