Green Cookies: The Ultimate St Patrick's Day Sweet Treat!

Green Cookies: The Ultimate St Patrick's Day Sweet Treat!

So, you've made the sugar cookies, and you've cut them into the shape of shamrocks and Leprechaun hats 🍀. Then you look at your green food coloring, and you're not impressed 🙁

In an icing or food coloring kit, green is usually grass green or vibrant green. When you are making cookies to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, you want the icing or the color scheme to be more of an emerald green.

Luckily, we have the answer! We will run you through the different cookie coloring options that will get you those gorgeous deep green cookies.

For Royal Icing or Cookie Flooding

Cookie flooding is where you apply icing to the cookie and allow it to set so that further decoration like stenciling or piping can be added. Usually, flood icing is white, but for St Patrick's Day, you will likely want green.

If you have white royal icing and want to turn it green, add a small amount of gel food coloring in a deep green, such as forest green, and mix. Add more coloring as desired to get a deep green finish to the icing. Once flooded, it may dry a few shades lighter.

Airbrush Colors

You may have started your cookies with a white royal icing base, and you now want to add a gradient of green.

No problem! There are many edible airbrush colors that will leave you with a deep and striking end result. Aim for greens such as gourmet green or forest green, and be sure to build them up. Allow each layer to dry before applying the next one.

Edible Glitter

A bit of glitter never goes a miss on St Patrick's Day cookies. There are many edible green glitters that you can apply to your cookies, such as Hybrid Luster Dust in emerald green or Metallic Lustre Dust in green tea. Both will add a touch of fun to green cookies and will be sure to get complimented.
