The Top Way To Make Sage Green Icing
Are you about to take on a baking challenge where you need a few different shades of green? If so, you may need to whip up a batch of sage green icing.
Sage green is an odd color. It is gentle to look at but not quite pastel and is nowhere near as bright as shamrock green. It also has a blue tint to it, making it unique among many of the other greens.
As such, you aren’t likely to find sage green icing or sage green food coloring ready-made. We have you covered, though, and here, we will look at how you can make sage green icing.
What You Will Need
When making the icing, add the food coloring to the bowl directly, or mix it separately and apply it!
- White icing - royal icing works well! Store-bought or homemade are both fine. You Can use our Royal Icing Recipes

How To Make Sage Green Icing
Step 1 - Place the icing into a bowl.
Step 2 - Get the food coloring ready. You will need to mix it in parts to get sage green icing. We recommend using 1 part orange gel coloring, 1 part blue food coloring, and 2 parts green food coloring. Remember, the brighter the shades are, the more similar to sage the finished product will be.
Step 3 - Mix the colors into the icing using the spatula or the spoon. Keep stirring until the icing has fully incorporated the color. Don’t add more colorings if it hasn’t reached the desired shade. While the icing color may look light when mixed, it won’t stay this shade. It is best to leave the icing to develop for a few hours when dealing with sage green, as it often gets darker.
