How To Make Gravestone Cookies
You Will Need:
- Dark chocolate cookies (check out our chocolate cookie recipe)
- Royal icing (make your own using our Royal Icing Recipe - or make it from Satin Ice Royal Icing Mix)
- Gel icing in black and gray
- Bamboo skewers (to hold the gravestones up)
- Gravestone-shaped cookie cutters (different sizes and shapes can add authenticity)
- Gravestone stencils
- Piping bag (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Make the cookie dough based on your recipe (see above for our cookie dough recipe)
- Chill the cookie dough and roll it onto parchment paper. Make it about ¼ inch thick.
- Use the cookie cutters to make the gravestone shapes.
- Slide the skewers into the middle of the cookies before you bake them, as they might crumble if you do it after!
- Bake the cookies for 10-14 minutes and allow them to cool.
- Make the royal icing and tint with black and grey colorants in separate bowls.
- Flood the chocolate gravestone cookies in the tinted grey icing and allow them to dry overnight.
- Use a stencil to mark the gravestone cookies with the royal black icing. Or, use a tipless bag to hand pipe letters like RIP onto the cookies.
